If the plant is not receiving enough light, it may begin dropping leaves or produce smaller new growth.
2. Avoid Overwatering
This is the most common mistake made by plant owners.
Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry before watering again. The soil should feel slightly dry to the touch rather than constantly wet. Overwatering can lead to root rot, yellow leaves, and eventually plant decline.
In Malaysia’s humid climate, watering once every 7 to 10 days is often sufficient, although this can vary depending on indoor conditions.
3. Keep It in One Position
Ficus Lyrata dislikes frequent movement. Constantly changing its location can cause stress and leaf drop.
Once you find a suitable location with good lighting, it is best to leave it there.
4. Clean the Leaves Regularly
The large leaves naturally collect dust, especially in offices and air-conditioned environments. Wiping the leaves gently with a damp cloth every few weeks helps the plant absorb more light and keeps it looking healthy and attractive.
5. Feed During the Growing Season
Applying a balanced fertiliser every few months during active growth will encourage larger leaves and stronger growth.
